Warriors Even League Mark at 1-1

with 60-39 Win over Muskegon Heights

It was a Christmas theme Friday night at the Western Michigan Christian High gym and the Warrior boys got an early present.

They picked up a 60-39 victory over Lakes Eight Conference competitor Muskegon Heights.

The Warriors led 14-7 after the first quarter, 32-15 at halftime and 41-30 heading into the final period.

Freshman Owen Varnado led the team with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Tyler Somers added 11 points while Brant Zeerip and Zach Butkis added eight apiece. Butkis also grabbed 7 rebounds.

The conference win improves WMC to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Lakes Eight.

“Tonight was a great team win for WMC,” coach Kurt Gruppen said. “We were able to rebound on both ends of the court and take care of the ball in key situations. 
 
  “I was proud of the way we stuck together after Muskegon Heights went on a run in the third quarter.  We were able to answer with a run of our own and come away with a nice win.”
