Warriors Come from Behind
for Important League Win over MCC
The Western Michigan Christian boys took on Lakes Eight Conference rival Muskegon Catholic Central on Friday night, defeating the Crusaders on Homecoming by a final score of 46-38.
Hayden Hubers led the way with 12 points, ahead of Zach Butkis with 11 and Owen Varnado with nine.
The Warriors trailed early, down 18-6 at the end of the first quarter and 22-20 at halftime before taking the lead, 34-30, heading into the fourth.
Jared Dugener hit three 3-pointers for MCC in the first quarter to buoy their hot start.
“Tonight was a great atmosphere on our home court,” said WMC head coach Kurt Gruppen. “Our fans did a great job of helping our team come from behind and get a conference win. The guys did a great job sticking together after a rough start.
“We used a great defensive effort in the second quarter to get us back on track. We were able to finally take a lead in the third quarter and make enough plays down the stretch to seal the win.”
The victory improves WMC to 4-2 in conference, one game behind first-place Ludington, and 6-7 overall. They return to action Friday at Muskegon Heights.
The Crusaders fall to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in league play.
