Your warriors took on the warriors of Wheaton Academy from Chicago, Illinois. From the whistle, Wheaton dominated most of the possession in the first 10 minutes. WMC would finally find a rhythm and create some opportunities into the attacking third, however, just couldn't get close enough to create any scoring opportunities.
The game was mainly defensive for WMC as both squads were rotating players in and out to save legs and maintain injuries. Wheaton created some great opportunities but Libby Mast (Sr.) made a few great saves to keep it 0-0 at half. Our defensive line of Chloe Nadeau (Sr.), Haley Brueker (Sr.), and Nadia Burr (So.) did a phenomenal job staying organized and eliminating chances.
However, at the start of the second half, Wheaton was able to attack down the left side of the field and send a cross that skipped through a few defenders that found their winger at the back post. This would put the warriors of Wheaton Academy up 1-0 in the first 30 seconds. However, WMC responded well and would hold them off for the remaining 39 minutes.
Coach Pekel was pleased with some key minutes from Jacelyn Leiter (Sr.) and Kayla Balder (Jr.). Also, Emily Warp (Fr.) and Eleanor Kingshott (So.). Pekel had this to say about the game, "I am proud of the girls' grit and determination to fight against a quality opponent. We never seemed to lack in our defensive efforts even with rotating every player into the mix."
WMC will take on the Orioles of Ludington High School on Monday at home. This is a massive game for both teams as they both fight neck-in-neck for the Lakes 8 Activities Conference title. WMC will have to put up a great showing against the Orioles to maintain on top in league play.
