Warriors Hold off Ludington for 33-31 Win

The Western Michigan Christian boys basketball team jumped out to a 27-16 halftime lead over host Ludington on Friday night and held off a late rally by the Orioles to record a 33-31 road win in Lakes Eight Conference action.

Kellen Mitchell scored nine points to lead the Warriors, while Nick Moser added seven points.

"We had a great start to the game, which allowed us to have great defensive energy," said WMC head coach Kurt Gruppen. "The guys worked really hard and were focused on the game plan.

"Ludington went on a little run in the fourth quarter, and I was proud of how we stuck together and came out with the win."

With the Warriors up 30-29, WMC's Hayden Hubers stole the ball, hit the layup and was fouled. He made the free throw to put the Warriors up 33-29.  Ludington's Brayden Porter cut the Warrior lead to 33-31. A desperation shot by Ludington at the buzzer failed.

Moser helped keep the Warriors on top the second half with several strong drives to the basket.

WMC led 10-6 at the first 17-10 at intermission and 24-19 going into the final period.
