Warriors Run into a Buzz Saw at Montague

The Western Michigan Christian boys basketball team never got their offense going Tuesday night in a 55-26 road loss to Montague.

The Warriors trailed 13-8 after the first quarter, 29-15 at halftime and 42-23 heading into the final frame.

Owen Varnado led the way with seven points and seven rebounds.

“Montague did a great job driving into the paint and rebounding the basketball,” said WMC head coach Kurt Gruppen. “One of the great things about athletics is teams get to learn about overcoming and responding to adversity. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to play at Muskegon Heights and move on from tonight’s game.”

The loss drops WMC’s record to 8-10 overall, while they hold at 5-3 in Lakes Eight play — good for second place. They are scheduled to return to action today for a make-up game at Muskegon Heights starting at 7:30 p.m.
