Warriors Blitz MCC 69 to 17

The Western Michigan Christian girls basketball team was operating on all cylinders Friday night, as they rolled past host Muskegon Catholic, 69-17.

The Warriors raced out to a 21-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back for their opening Lakes Eight Conference win.

Sophomore Taylor Folkema tied the WMC girls single-game scoring record with a 39-point effort. She tied the record set by Kim Culp in 1983. Folkema also had nine rebounds and eight steals.

Anna Sytsema chipped in with 13 points. Defensively, the Warriors had 27 steals to help surge past the Crusaders.

"The team really encouraged Taylor tonight, and she was very efficient, going 18-25. I was very proud of how the girls are looking for the hot hand and are very selfless," WMC coach Jeremy Goorman said.
